Sharon Shevell
Painter of Magical Thinking
Sharon Shevell is a painter and mixed media artist who works primarily in acrylic paint and found objects. She was born in 1950, is a native New Yorker and currently resides and works in Parkland, Florida. After receiving an AA from the Fashion Institute of Technology she enjoyed a long career as a commercial textile designer, colorist, stylist, and art director in the fashion industry.
Having grown up on Long Island, her love for the ocean, sea life, flora and fauna is evident in her work. Surrealist artists such as Dali and Magritte held special interest and had a tremendous influence in her artistic development. Sharon’s first exhibition was in Ocean Beach, New York.
In 1992, Sharon moved to Florida and began studying painting with Roslyn Kirsh and Miles Laventhall at the Boca Raton Museum of Art School of Art. Her artwork has been displayed at venues such as Harris Fine Art in both Pompano and Delray Beach locations, the Liberty Plaza Invitational in Boca Raton, and the Coral Springs Museum of Art. Sharon’s paintings and wall sculptures can be found in multiple private collections throughout the U.S. and Canada.
When Sharon is not painting, she can be found playing in the dirt with plants and communing with nature in her garden or taking ballet classes.
